These French Onion Sausage Rolls feature a savory filling infused with caramelized onions, wrapped in buttery puff pastry. Perfect for parties, snacks, or indulgent treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) sausage meat (pork, chicken, or turkey)
  • 1 large onion, finely sliced
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized. Stir in thyme, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Let cool.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine sausage meat with cooled caramelized onions. Mix thoroughly.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry to smooth any creases. Cut it into two long rectangles.
  4. Divide the sausage mixture into two portions. Place each portion in a log shape along one edge of the pastry rectangles. Roll the pastry tightly around the filling, sealing the edges with beaten egg.
  5. Cut each roll into smaller pieces, about 2-3 inches long. Place them seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  6. Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and cooked through.

Notes

Caramelize the onions slowly for the best flavor. Keep the puff pastry cold while working with it to ensure flaky results.
