A tangy and creamy cheese ball bursting with dill pickle flavor, perfect for easy entertaining and quick to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened (full-fat recommended)
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded (about 100g)
  • 1/2 cup dill pickles, finely chopped (about 120g)
  • 12 tablespoons pickle juice
  • 12 tablespoons green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • Black pepper, freshly ground, to taste
  • Crushed pretzels or crispy bacon bits for coating

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese by leaving it out at room temperature for about 30 minutes or microwave for 10-15 seconds carefully.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer or hand whisk until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Fold in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese gently but thoroughly.
  4. Add the finely chopped dill pickles, green onions, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce (if using), and black pepper. Mix until evenly distributed.
  5. Pour in 1 tablespoon of pickle juice and stir well. Taste and add an additional tablespoon if more tang is desired, but avoid making the mixture too wet.
  6. Shape the mixture into a ball or oval shape using hands or a spatula. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  7. Just before serving, roll the chilled cheese ball in crushed pretzels or crispy bacon bits, pressing gently to adhere the coating.
  8. Serve on a platter with crackers, sliced veggies, or bread. Keep leftovers refrigerated and covered.

Notes

Soften cream cheese properly to avoid lumps. Adjust pickle juice carefully to prevent sogginess. Chill at least 1 hour for best texture. For firmer cheese ball, chill longer or briefly freeze 10-15 minutes before serving. Use firm pickles to avoid excess moisture. Gluten-free and dairy-free variations available.
