A rich, velvety hot chocolate blended with a refreshing hint of mint—perfect for cozy winter evenings or festive gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (480ml) whole milk
  • ½ cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • ¼ cup (25g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (85g) dark chocolate chips
  • ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream (optional)
  • Crushed candy canes (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups (480ml) of whole milk and ½ cup (120ml) of heavy cream. Heat over medium-low until warm but not boiling, stirring occasionally.
  2. Once the milk mixture is warm, whisk in ¼ cup (25g) of unsweetened cocoa powder and ¼ cup (50g) of granulated sugar. Stir until fully dissolved, ensuring there are no lumps.
  3. Add ½ cup (85g) of dark chocolate chips to the saucepan. Stir continuously until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in ½ teaspoon of peppermint extract, ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a tiny pinch of salt. Taste and adjust sweetness or mint flavor by adding more sugar or peppermint extract if desired.
  5. Pour the hot chocolate into your favorite mugs.
  6. Top with a generous dollop of whipped cream and sprinkle crushed candy canes on top for a festive finish.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy the creamy, minty bliss!

Notes

[‘Don’t let the milk boil to avoid curdling or scalding.’, ‘Use good-quality chocolate for richer flavor.’, ‘Adjust sweetness and mint flavor to taste.’, ‘Sift cocoa powder beforehand to avoid clumps.’, ‘Use a milk frother or immersion blender for a frothy texture.’]
