A quick and easy recipe for crispy chicken wings cooked in the air fryer with four flavorful variations: buffalo, honey garlic, lemon pepper, and barbecue.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds chicken wings, fresh or thawed, tips trimmed off if preferred
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Buffalo Sauce: 1/4 cup hot sauce (Frank’s RedHot), 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted, 1 teaspoon honey
  • Honey Garlic Sauce: 1/4 cup honey, 3 cloves garlic minced, 2 tablespoons soy sauce or tamari, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • Lemon Pepper Seasoning: 2 teaspoons lemon zest, 1 teaspoon black pepper, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Barbecue Sauce: 1/3 cup favorite BBQ sauce, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • Optional garnishes: chopped fresh parsley or cilantro, blue cheese or ranch dressing for dipping, lemon wedges

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. Trim any excess skin or wing tips if preferred. (10 minutes)
  2. In a large bowl, toss the wings with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika until evenly coated. (5 minutes)
  3. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Place wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Avoid overcrowding. Cook for 25 minutes, shaking or flipping halfway through (around 12 minutes). Wings should be golden and crispy with an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  5. While wings cook, prepare your chosen sauce or seasoning blend: buffalo (melted butter, hot sauce, honey), honey garlic (honey, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar), lemon pepper (dry mix), or barbecue (BBQ sauce, smoked paprika, brown sugar). (10 minutes)
  6. Transfer cooked wings to a clean bowl and toss with the sauce or seasoning of your choice. For lemon pepper, sprinkle evenly and toss gently. For saucier options, coat well but not soggy. (5 minutes)
  7. Optional: Return wings to the air fryer at 400°F (204°C) for 2-3 minutes to set the sauce and firm up the wings. Watch closely to avoid burning. (3 minutes)
  8. Arrange wings on a platter, garnish with fresh herbs or lemon wedges if desired, and serve immediately with dipping sauces. (2 minutes)

Notes

Pat wings dry before seasoning to ensure crispiness. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket to maintain airflow. Flip or shake wings halfway through cooking for even crisping. Toss wings in sauce after cooking to keep skin crispy. For extra crispiness, return wings to air fryer for a few minutes after saucing. Adjust sauce quantities to taste or batch size. Use tamari or coconut aminos for gluten-free. Reheat leftovers in air fryer at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to regain crispiness.
