A festive and easy holiday dessert featuring layers of soft sugar cookies, creamy cream cheese frosting, whipped topping, and colorful sprinkles. Perfect for holiday gatherings and potlucks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (about 15-18) sugar cookies, store-bought or homemade (soft and chewy cookies work best)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts or holiday-themed candy pieces
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tub (8 oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Holiday-themed sprinkles or crushed peppermint candies
  • Mini chocolate chips or red and green M&Ms

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cookie Layer: Preheat oven to 350°F if baking homemade sugar cookies. If using store-bought soft cookies, skip baking. Once cookies are ready and cooled, sprinkle lightly with ground cinnamon. Mix in nuts or candy pieces if desired. Arrange a single layer of cookies in a 9×13-inch dish, pressing gently to fill gaps. Takes about 10 minutes.
  2. Make the Cream Cheese Frosting: Beat softened cream cheese with granulated sugar and vanilla extract using an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes. Scrape sides occasionally.
  3. Spread the Cream Cheese Layer: Evenly spread the cream cheese frosting over the cookie layer using a spatula. Takes about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the Whipped Topping: Fold thawed whipped topping into the cream cheese frosting for lighter texture or spread as a separate layer for thicker effect. Mix in peppermint extract if using. Smooth evenly over cream cheese layer. Takes 5-7 minutes.
  5. Decorate: Sprinkle holiday-themed sprinkles, crushed peppermint candies, or mini chocolate chips over the whipped topping. Takes about 2 minutes.
  6. Chill: Cover dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 hours or overnight to allow cookies to absorb moisture and soften.
  7. Serve: Cut into squares and serve cold or at room temperature. Keeps well refrigerated for up to 3 days.

Notes

Use room temperature cream cheese and whipped topping for smooth frosting. Chilling overnight is best for texture. Soft, chewy sugar cookies work best. For gluten-free or dairy-free versions, substitute appropriate ingredients. Avoid microwaving to preserve texture.
