This Dragon Rolls recipe combines creamy avocado, fresh seafood, and crunchy toppings for a restaurant-quality sushi experience at home in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked sushi rice
  • 2 sheets nori
  • 6 large shrimp, cooked and peeled (or imitation crab)
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced thinly
  • 1 small cucumber, julienned
  • 1/4 cup tempura flakes
  • 2 tablespoons unagi sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • Soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger (optional dipping sauce)

Instructions

  1. Cook the sushi rice according to package instructions and let it cool slightly. Slice the avocado and cucumber into thin strips. Peel and cook the shrimp (or prepare imitation crab).
  2. Lay a sheet of nori on a clean surface or bamboo sushi mat. Spread a thin layer of cooked sushi rice evenly over the nori, leaving about 1 inch at the top edge uncovered.
  3. Arrange shrimp, avocado slices, and cucumber strips horizontally across the rice, about 1 inch from the bottom edge.
  4. Using your fingers, carefully lift the bottom edge of the nori and roll it tightly over the filling, pressing gently to seal. Keep rolling until you reach the uncovered edge of the nori.
  5. Lay thin slices of avocado across the top of the roll. Sprinkle tempura flakes and sesame seeds evenly over the avocado. Drizzle unagi sauce for a glossy finish.
  6. Using a sharp knife, cut the roll into 8 equal pieces. Serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.

Notes

Keep your hands wet to prevent sticky rice from sticking. Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor. Wipe your knife with a damp cloth between cuts for clean slices.
