Transform a simple pack of instant ramen into a rich, creamy, and satisfying bowl with just five ingredients. This budget-friendly recipe is ready in 10 minutes and perfect for busy students or anyone craving a quick, delicious meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pack instant ramen noodles (discard or save half the seasoning packet)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon butter (or margarine)
  • 1 green onion, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (or a splash of soy sauce)

Instructions

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a small pot. While the water heats up, slice the green onion and set aside.
  2. Add the ramen noodles to the boiling water. Cook for 2 minutes, using a fork to separate the noodle block as it softens. The noodles should be tender but still have a little bite.
  3. Reduce the heat to low so the water is barely simmering.
  4. Stir in half the seasoning packet. Taste and add more if desired.
  5. Crack the egg into a small bowl. Using a fork or chopsticks, create a gentle whirlpool in the simmering water. Pour the egg into the center of the swirl. Let it cook undisturbed for 1 minute for a runny yolk, or 90 seconds for a firmer one.
  6. Remove the pot from heat. Add the butter and let it melt into the broth, stirring gently.
  7. Pour everything into a bowl. Drizzle with sesame oil (or soy sauce) and top with sliced green onions. Give it one more gentle stir and serve immediately.

Notes

For best results, use real butter and a room-temperature egg. Don’t overcook the noodles; they continue cooking in the hot broth. Season in layers to avoid excess saltiness. The butter is essential for a creamy broth.
