  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) vodka or water for a kid-friendly option
  • White Layer: 1 (3 oz / 85 g) package unflavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) cold water
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) vodka or water for non-alcoholic version
  • Blue Layer: 1 (6 oz / 170 g) package blue raspberry gelatin or blueberry flavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) vodka or water
  • Optional Garnishes: Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries)
  • Mini American flags or festive toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: Dissolve 1 package (6 oz / 170 g) strawberry gelatin in 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water. Stir briskly until completely dissolved (about 2 minutes). Add 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water and 1/4 cup (60 ml) vodka or water. Mix gently.
  2. Pour and Chill Red Layer: Pour the red mixture evenly into shot glasses or molds, filling about one-third of each. Refrigerate for 30-40 minutes until firm but slightly tacky.
  3. Prepare the White Layer: Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water and let bloom for 5 minutes. Dissolve 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water into sweetened condensed milk, stir smooth. Combine with bloomed gelatin and add 1/4 cup (60 ml) vodka or water.
  4. Layer the White Gelatin: Gently spoon the white layer over the red layer. Chill for another 30-40 minutes until firm.
  5. Prepare the Blue Layer: Dissolve 1 package (6 oz / 170 g) blue raspberry gelatin in 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water. Add 1/2 cup (120 ml) cold water and 1/4 cup (60 ml) vodka or water. Stir well.
  6. Final Layer and Chill: Pour the blue mixture over the white layer, filling each cup to the top. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours until completely set.
  7. Serving: Garnish with fresh berries or festive picks if desired. Serve chilled.

Notes

Use cold water straight from the fridge for mixing gelatin. Chill each layer until tacky before adding the next to prevent mixing. Use quality gelatin brands like Jell-O for best results. Adjust vodka quantity to balance flavor. Can substitute vodka with rum or tequila. For dairy-free white layer, replace sweetened condensed milk with coconut cream or almond milk sweetened to taste. Shots can be made up to 2 days ahead and stored refrigerated. Freeze for longer storage but texture changes slightly.
