A cozy winter cocktail featuring warm butter melting into spiced rum with cinnamon and nutmeg, perfect for chilly evenings by the fire.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup (57g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup (70g) packed brown sugar (dark or light)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch (about 1/8 teaspoon) ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ounces (60ml) dark spiced rum
  • 4 to 5 ounces (120–150ml) hot water

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine softened unsalted butter, packed brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves, and vanilla extract. Blend with a spoon or spatula until smooth and creamy, about 3–5 minutes.
  2. Spoon about 2 tablespoons (30g) of the butter batter into a large heatproof mug.
  3. Pour 2 ounces (60ml) of dark spiced rum over the butter batter in the mug.
  4. Fill the mug with about 4 to 5 ounces (120–150ml) of hot water (not boiling). Stir gently for about 30 seconds until the butter batter is fully dissolved and the drink looks creamy.
  5. Garnish with a cinnamon stick or a sprinkle of freshly grated nutmeg if desired.

Notes

Use softened unsalted butter for best mixing results. Avoid boiling water to prevent butter from curdling. The butter batter can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week. Adjust sweetness by varying brown sugar amount. For dairy-free version, substitute butter with coconut oil or vegan butter.
