These buttery, melt-in-your-mouth cookies are dusted with sweet powdered sugar and feature the nutty flavor of browned butter paired with toasted pecans for a rich and indulgent taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (plus extra for coating)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup toasted and finely chopped pecans
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Brown the Butter: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir continuously until it turns golden brown and smells nutty, about 5-7 minutes. Let it cool for 5 minutes before using.
  2. Toast the Pecans: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the pecans on a baking sheet and toast for 5-7 minutes, stirring halfway through. Let them cool, then finely chop.
  3. Mix the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the cooled brown butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Beat until smooth. Gradually add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms. Stir in the chopped pecans.
  4. Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to make it easier to handle.
  5. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) again if needed. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll and Bake: Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them about 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly golden.
  7. Cool and Coat: Let the cookies cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheets, then transfer them to a wire rack. While they’re still warm, roll them in powdered sugar. Let them cool completely, then roll them in powdered sugar a second time for that classic snowball look.
