Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives (optional)
  • 1/4 cup pickled jalapeños (optional)
  • 1/2 cup diced green onions
  • Tortilla chips, pita chips, or veggie sticks for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 lb ground beef or turkey and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks (about 6-8 minutes). Drain excess grease and stir in 1 packet of taco seasoning with 1/4 cup water. Cook for another 2 minutes until the meat is well-coated and the liquid has evaporated. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 8 oz softened cream cheese, 1 cup sour cream, and 1 packet taco seasoning. Mix well until smooth and creamy.
  3. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly across the bottom of a 9×13-inch dish or pie dish.
  4. Spoon the cooked taco meat over the cream cheese base, spreading it evenly.
  5. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the meat layer.
  6. Layer 1 cup shredded lettuce, 1/2 cup diced tomatoes, 1/4 cup black olives, 1/4 cup pickled jalapeños, and 1/2 cup diced green onions on top.
  7. Serve the taco dip immediately with tortilla chips or chill it in the fridge until ready to serve. If chilled, let it sit out for about 10 minutes before serving to soften slightly.

Notes

[‘Don’t skip softening the cream cheese to ensure a smooth base.’, ‘Use freshly shredded cheese for better meltiness.’, ‘Assemble the dip up to 24 hours in advance, but add fresh toppings just before serving.’, ‘Customize the spice level with mild or spicy taco seasoning and jalapeños.’]
