Juicy, tender beef meatballs smothered in a silky, rich gravy—perfect for cozy dinners, potlucks, or indulgent comfort food without a ton of prep.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend works best)
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs (regular or panko)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into evenly sized meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. You should get around 16 to 18 meatballs.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a splash of oil. Brown the meatballs in batches, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden (about 6-8 minutes). Remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened and lightly caramelized, about 5 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir to combine. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.
  6. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, ensuring there are no lumps. Add garlic powder and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Bring the gravy to a gentle simmer and let it thicken, about 5-7 minutes.
  8. Return the meatballs to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them. Let them simmer together for another 5-7 minutes.
  9. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Drizzle extra gravy on top.

Notes

[‘Don’t overmix the meatball mixture to keep them tender and juicy.’, ‘Prepare the meatballs ahead and store them in the fridge for convenience.’, ‘Deglaze the skillet with beef broth for extra flavor.’, ‘Add a pinch of sugar to balance out salty gravy.’, ‘Cook meatballs in batches to ensure even browning.’]
