A warm, melty chocolate chip skillet cookie shaped like a heart, perfect for Valentine’s Day or cozy date nights. This easy recipe delivers crispy edges and a gooey center with simple pantry ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup (113 grams) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100 grams) light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups (155 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (170 grams) chocolate chips, semi-sweet or milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly grease an 8-inch oven-safe skillet with butter or non-stick spray.
  3. In a medium bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed or folding by hand until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  8. Transfer the dough to the greased skillet and press evenly across the bottom, shaping into a heart if desired.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, starting to check at 18 minutes. Look for golden edges and a slightly soft, gooey center.
  10. Allow the skillet cookie to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for best results. Do not overmix the dough to keep it tender. Grease the skillet well to prevent sticking. Start checking the bake at 18 minutes to avoid overbaking and losing the gooey center. Cooling the skillet cookie for 10 minutes helps the center set without drying out. For variations, try adding cinnamon, nuts, or different types of chocolate chips. For vegan or gluten-free adaptations, substitute ingredients accordingly.
