Magical Cauldron Cookies - featured image

Rich, chocolatey cookies topped with bubbling ‘smoke’ and edible potion ingredients, perfect for Halloween fun.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (227 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (220 g) packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¾ cups (350 g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (90 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Mini Reese’s Cups (or similar small chocolates)
  • Green icing or melted white chocolate dyed green
  • Candy eyeballs, round sprinkles, or edible glitter
  • Pretzel sticks (to form cauldron legs)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes). Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  5. Roll the dough into golf ball-sized rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches (5 cm) of space between each cookie.
  6. Bake the cookies for 9-11 minutes, or until they are set but still soft in the center. Allow them to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack.
  7. Once the cookies are completely cool, place a mini Reese’s Cup on top of each cookie as the ‘cauldron.’ Pipe green icing or melted chocolate around the base of the cup to mimic bubbling potion.
  8. Add candy eyeballs, sprinkles, or edible glitter to the green icing, and stick pretzel legs into the base of the cookie for a fun cauldron effect.

Notes

[‘Chill the dough for 15-20 minutes if it feels too sticky to roll.’, ‘Don’t overbake the cookies to maintain their soft, chewy texture.’, ‘Prepare all decorations ahead of time for smoother decorating.’, ‘Use high-quality cocoa powder for better flavor.’]
