These Magical Witch’s Cauldron Cookies are a whimsical and delicious Halloween treat, perfect for parties or cozy nights in. With vibrant colors and enchanting decorations, they bring the magic of Halloween straight to your kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ¾ cups (345g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Green and purple food coloring (gel is best for vibrant colors)
  • Black fondant (for cauldron handles)
  • Mini marshmallows (to mimic bubbles)
  • Sprinkles, candies, and edible glitter (for the ‘potions’)
  • Chocolate chips or candy melts (optional, for detailing)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (around 2-3 minutes). Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. If the dough feels too sticky, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until it’s easier to handle.
  3. Split the dough into two portions. Add green food coloring to one half and purple food coloring to the other, kneading gently until the colors are evenly distributed.
  4. Roll out the colored dough to about ¼-inch thickness. Use your cookie cutters to create round shapes or cauldron shapes. Place the cut-out cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between each cookie.
  5. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Chilling the dough helps the cookies maintain their shape while baking.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Be careful not to overbake—these cookies should remain soft!
  7. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  8. Use black fondant to create cauldron handles, edible glitter to mimic potion magic, and mini marshmallows as bubbling foam. Get creative with sprinkles and candies to bring your cauldrons to life!
