A simple and reliable recipe for perfectly crispy French fries made in the air fryer, featuring a double-cook method for a crunchy exterior and fluffy interior.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large or 4 medium russet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
  • Salt to taste (sea salt or kosher salt recommended)
  • Optional seasonings: garlic powder, smoked paprika, black pepper
  • Cold water for soaking

Instructions

  1. Peel (optional) or scrub the potatoes and slice into even sticks about 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick.
  2. Place the cut fries in a large bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes, up to 2 hours.
  3. Drain and pat the potatoes completely dry with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel.
  4. Toss the dry fries with 2 tablespoons of oil and salt plus any optional seasonings.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Place fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook for 12 minutes, shaking or tossing halfway through.
  7. Increase temperature to 400°F (204°C) and cook for an additional 6-8 minutes.
  8. Adjust salt or seasoning after cooking and serve hot.

Notes

Soaking the fries removes excess starch and is crucial for crispiness. Dry fries thoroughly before cooking. Use the double-cook method for best results. Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F for 3-5 minutes to maintain crispiness.
