  • 2 cups graham cracker crumbs (finely crushed)
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 can (14 oz or 396g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup (175g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
  • 1 cup (85g) sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup (60g) chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans, optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and a pinch of salt. Mix until crumbs are evenly coated and resemble wet sand. Press mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  3. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over the crust. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the milk, followed by shredded coconut, and then chopped nuts if using. Drizzle vanilla extract over the top.
  4. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and center looks set but still soft. Watch closely starting at 25 minutes to avoid overbaking.
  5. Remove from oven and let cool completely on a wire rack (about 1 hour). For cleaner cuts, chill bars in the fridge for 20 minutes before slicing into squares or rectangles.

Do not substitute sweetened condensed milk with evaporated or regular milk to maintain gooey texture. Cool bars completely before cutting to avoid mess. For cleaner slices, chill bars in fridge for 20 minutes before cutting. Finely crush graham crackers for best texture. Avoid overbaking to keep bars moist and chewy.
