A rich, savory, and creamy dip combining sweet caramelized onions, smoky bacon, and tangy ranch dressing, perfect for parties and snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 68 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
  • 1 cup ranch dressing
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) sour cream
  • 1 cup (100 g) shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh chives
  • Optional: pinch of smoked paprika
  • Optional: dash of hot sauce

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil or butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Stir occasionally for 25-30 minutes until onions are deeply caramelized and jammy.
  2. Cook chopped bacon in another pan over medium heat until crisp, about 8-10 minutes. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, and ranch dressing. Whisk or mix until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste. Fold in half of the caramelized onions and half of the cooked bacon. Add shredded cheddar cheese if using.
  5. Transfer mixture to a serving bowl. Top with remaining caramelized onions and bacon. Sprinkle chopped fresh chives on top.
  6. Serve immediately warm or chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour before serving.

Notes

Caramelize onions low and slow to avoid burning; add a splash of water to deglaze if onions stick. Drain bacon well to avoid greasy dip. Soften cream cheese before mixing for smooth texture. Can be served warm or chilled. For vegan version, use dairy-free cream cheese, sour cream, ranch, and substitute bacon with smoked tempeh or coconut bacon.
